A muscle twitch (technical name fasciculation) is a small, local, involuntary muscle contraction visible under the skins. Muscle twitches can have a variety of causes. One of the most common effects of magnesium deficiency is muscle twitching.
Magnesium is an essential mineral for the human body. It is even known as the “relaxing mineral” because of its role in relaxing muscles. The German University, Albert-Ludwigs, conducted a trial and discovered that people who suffered from resltess leg syndrome and insomnia showed significant improvement after taking a 300mg magnesium supplement for four to six weeks. As well as a diet deficient of magnesium it is also possible to become magneseium deficient through stress, as well as severe diarrhea. Another factor in being deficient can be over exertion.
If you do not want to take supplements, all is not lost. You can easy get more magnesium into your diet by eating nuts, wholegrains, beans, dark green vegetables, fish, and lean meat.
PRK is used to correct or reduce myopia (shortsightedness or nearsightedness), hyperopia (longsightedness or farsightedness), and astigmatism. The PRK procedure flattens part or all of the cornea which in turn allow focal point of light to focus more closely on the retina. PRK differs from Lasik in that it does not create a permanent flap in the cornea, instead it uses the excimer laser exclusively from start to finish, essentially scraping the top level of the cornea. The benefits of PRK is that it is simple and non-intrusive as compared to lasik. As with all surgery there can be complications.
Lasik stands for laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis, and is a surgical procedure used to “cure” shortsightedness, longsightedness, or astigmatism. “Keratomileusis” is the carving of the cornea in order to reshape it. Lasik Permanently changes the shape of the cornea using a special lazer called an eximer lazer.
As the laser reshapes the cornea, it changes the angle at which you see images and therefore strengthens your vision significantly. This reshaping adjusts and strengthens the power of your cornea to focus on objects near and far. If you are nearsighted, your doctor uses the laser to flatten your cornea that is too-steep. If you are farsighted, your doctor uses the laser to make your cornea steeper because it is too flat. For astigmatism, the laser can be used to smooth an irregular cornea into a more smooth shape. There are few other procedures like Lasik Eye Surgery that can give you these amazing results and permanently change the shape of your cornea in just minutes.
The lasic procedure of lasik is:
A suction ring is placed on the eye to stabalize and monitor pressure
A microkeratome, a cutting instrument, is attached to the suction ring. This blade cuts a flap in the cornea
The exposed inner layer of the cornea is reshaped with an eximer lazer
The corneal flap is returned to the original position
The patient walks in to the surgery, have the procedure, and walk out again being awake the whole time. The doctor performing the surgery may also administer a mild oral sedative.
The marketing for this procedure says that lasik provides benefit to millions of people, however, it doesn’t really solve the underlying cause of poor vision. If they were myopic before, their eye is still mis-shapen. They may be able to see perfectly well after the surgery, but years down the line myopia may return. There are also possibilities of complications that could affect your vision.
Eyebright herb used as a herbal remedy for eye problems
Eyebright is a native European plant and is common throughout Britain. It is a semi-parasitic plant which feeds off grass and other plants by attaching suckers to the roots and drawing out the nutrients it requires. The herb’s French name loosely translates to ‘throw away your glasses’, giving testament to its reputation as a cure for eyes.
It is used in homeopathy for the treatment of Hay fever, watery irritated eyes and nasal discharge. Eyebright is an anti-inflammatory and astringent (causing contraction of the body tissues, reducing blood flow, or restricting secretions of fluids). It is soothing and antibacterial and has numerous other uses.
Tea can be made from the whole eyebright plant, fresh or dried, and taken as a tonic or remedy for hay-fever. An infusion of the leaves can be used to bathe tired, sore eyes as well as a number of different eye conditions. The chemical substance, tannins, that is produced by eyebright has been used to reduce eye inflammation as well as to create a protective covering over the surface of the eye.
Most, if not all, natural vision improvement products will tell you to wear glasses as little as possible, or event to not wear glasses entirely. The reason for this is that glasses provide a temporary fix and do not improve your eyesight over the long term. Glasses will make your eyesight worse over time, which is why many people need stronger prescriptions each time they visit their optician.
Get Some Bilberry Extract
Bilberry is one of the best things you can take to improve your eyesight naturally, and you should start noticing results in under a month. The best type of bilberry to get is the standardized extract, ideally at 160mg. Although anything over 100mg should be good.
Avoid Sugary Foods
Sugar is bad news for the eyes – the more sugar you eat, the worse your eyesight will become. Sugar can come in the form of natural and artificial sugar.
Distance Focus Exercises
Since most people are short sighted (can see objects better when they are closer) one of the best exercises you can do to improve your eyesight is to refocus the eye by looking at near and far objects. You can do this using the finger method described in tip number 2 of our first tips article.
Use an Eye Exercise Program
Download an eye exercise program, or get any bates method book from Amazon and do the exercises daily. Go through each level in the program slowly, and only move up to a higher level when you find the exercises easy to do. This will give you a regimen to strengthen the eye muscles in your eyes.
Refocus Constantly
Whilst you should set aside some time to do eye exercises daily, it is a good idea to refocus your eyes throughout the day by making an effort to look at objects which are in the distance. Most of the time you are looking at objects which are very close to you. So take advantage of the times when you can look at things which are further away. At the same time avoid staring for long periods at computer or TV screens. If you have to look at a computer or TV for long periods, try to occasionally look at something in the distance.
Improve Your Hand To Eye Coordination
Exercise is great for general health, but for eyesight try sports that improve this. Martial arts are great, badminton is also excellent. Play games that work on this too. It is another great excuse to have fun!
According the Journal Of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics a 25 year old woman underwent Chiropractic treatment for back pain; she was also suffering from glaucoma. After one visit to the Chiropractor the patient noticed an improvement in her eyesight. After four adjustments her visual field increased from %2 to %20. This sounds unbelievable, so how could this be so?
The Chiropractor manipulates and realigns the spinal column into correct alignment. This allows the nervous system to function properly and reduces any tension around the body. The nervous system regulates every cell of the body. Certain vertibrae contain nerves that lead to specific body areas and parts. For example, the Sympathetic chain” has nerves to the eyes, ears, and other sense organs. The second vertibrae from your scull affects the eyes, optic nerves, auditory nerves, sinuses, and other areas.
The only downside of Chiropractic is the price. However, the benefits could be priceless as the video below demonstrates.
If you spend a lot of time working with a computer, reading or watching TV you are most likely short sighted. This means that you are unable to see objects in the distance very clearly.
This occurs because for the majority of the day your eyes are focused on objects that are close to you, so in effect your eyes become accustomed to seeing close objects. As a result the eyes becomes less able to see distant objects clearly.
Here’s 3 quick eye exercises you can use to improve your eyesight, and increase your ability to see objects in the distance.
Eye Exercise 1
Make an effort to stare at something in the distance every 30 – 60 minutes for at least 30 seconds. You can do this by simply looking at the other end of the room you are in, or looking out the window. This exercise will improve your focus of distant objects, by preventing the eye becoming accustomed to focusing only on objects that are close to you.
Eye Exercise 2
This is similar to the first exercise, but involves you putting your finger in front of your face about a hands distance away from your nose. Now look at your finger for a few seconds, then look at something in the distance. When you do this you should feel you eyes changing focus from the finger, to the distant object you are looking at. This is an excellent exercise for improving the focusing ability of your eyes.
Eye Exercise 3
For this exercise nod your head up and down, like you were nodding “yes” to someone. Look up at the ceiling and down at your toes.
This exercise will strengthen the muscles in your neck, thereby increasing blood circulation to the head and eyes. It could also help to reduce a sagging chin!
